Oklahoma City Symphonic Presents a Music Salute to our Veterans
If you’re looking for something fun to do the evening of November 8th, mark your calendars for the Oklahoma City Symphonic’s presentation of “An American Music Salute to Our Veterans.” The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Oklahoma City University, Petree Recital Hall. Admission to the concert is free, however, donations will be accepted.
There, approximately 100 professional and amateur musicians from around Oklahoma City will perform under the direction of Dr. Mark G. Belick, Associate Dean of Music at Oklahoma City University. The concert will also feature guest conductor Dr. Robert L. Spinks, a Professor of Sociology at OCU.
The Oklahoma Concert Band Foundation is also collecting used cell phones to raise money for the Oklahoma Concert Band Foundation. The phones will be sold to The Cell Fund Program, which is sponsored by The International Ministries Center of Tulsa. Cell Fund buys used phones to refurbish, reprogram and distribute to missionaries. Only wireless phones or PCS hand-carried phones will be accepted. Phones collected that are not on the Cell Fund list will be donated to the YWCA Battered Women’s Shelter and programmed for 911 phones. Your used phones can be given to any band member or you may drop them in a box located at Pender’s Music, 4401 N.W. 63rd or at the Piedmont Cleaners & Florist, 104 Piedmont Rd.
The Oklahoma City Symphonic band started their new season on September 4, and rehearsals are held at Southern Nazarene University on Tuesday evenings from 7:15 p.m. – 9:15 p.m. Their next production, “A Christmas Festival,” will take place on December 9 at Cherokee Baptist Church.
